Family Violence 201 | 2.0 CPD (Ethics)

Family violence 201, presented by Nilufa Husein, is a 2-hour course which provides lawyers with substantive advice and practical tips in how to effectively represent and manage client files where family violence is at issue. Over three modules, the course covers different aspects of a family law file from the initial screening for family violence to preparing for court. The course provides tips on file management and discusses how to best manage challenging clients, while managing self-care and professional boundaries. It also highlights the importance of collaboration between lawyers and support services.

Navigating BC’s Housing Crisis as a Survivor of Violence | 1.0 CPD (Practice Management)

Staff Lawyer, Haley Hrymak, will discuss Rise’s research findings on the ways the housing crisis makes survivors vulnerable to higher levels of violence, housing precarity, and financial insecurity. This training explains the challenges survivors face in finding safe and affordable housing and the way this directly affects their family law matters. The objective of this training is to equip family law lawyers and professionals with the specialized knowledge they need to best support survivors navigating the family law system and BC’s housing crisis.
